Osun 2026: NEDMO Demands Zero Election Violence, Seeks Total Security Neutrality
The New Direction for Nigeria Movement (NEDMO) issues an urgent, unequivocal call to all political actors, candidates, and stakeholders to immediately halt the rising tide of violence ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The Civil Society Organisation stated in its Press Release signed by its Director of Communication, Victor Terhember, that “The democratic process must not be turned into a theater of war as currently being noticed. The citizens of Osun State deserve the right to exercise their franchise in a peaceful, secure, and intimidation-free environment. “
NEDMO strongly condemns the recent clashes and provocative rhetoric, which threaten the peace of the state and the integrity of the upcoming polls.
“Our core demands are thatall Political Parties and candidates must Cease all hostile actions, disband criminal gangs, and commit strictly to the peace accord freely signed by them all. Leadership requires accountability, and history will judge harshly any leader who climbs into power on the blood of the citizens.
“We urge the security agencies to maintain absolute neutrality and professionalism. We demand the immediate arrest and prosecution of both the direct perpetrators and the high-profile sponsors of this violence, regardless of their political affiliations or status.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must ensure a transparent, free, and credible voting process that reflects the genuine will of the Osun electorate without any iota of compromise.
“We call on the Electorate to reject any inducements to engage in violence. Stand firm, protect your vote peacefully, and use your ballots to shape your future.NEDMO is deploying independent observers across the 30 Local Government Areas of Osun State. We will meticulously document all infractions, human rights abuses, and electoral malpractice to ensure that those who undermine our democracy face full legal consequences, both locally and internationally.
