BENIN CITY, NIGERIA — A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a crucial political ally to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, has passed away at the age of 64.
He died on Monday, August 31, 2026. His passing was officially confirmed in a statement released by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, Esq., on behalf of the Orbih family. The family expressed profound sadness over the painful loss while submitting completely to the will of God.
Political Influence and Tributes
Chief Orbih was a formidable force in southern Nigerian politics. He historically provided long-standing leadership as the Edo State PDP Chairman from 2008 to 2019 before stepping up to serve as the PDP National Vice Chairman for the South-South zone. He was a core member of the PDP internal faction aligned with Nyesom Wike.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike paid tribute to Orbih as a steadfast friend and political ally, describing his death as the loss of a major political figure in Edo State. Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki also expressed condolences, highlighting Orbih’s lasting impact on the state’s political history.
