Lagos Lawyer Demands N25m From MTN Nigeria Over ‘Hazardous’ Mast Damaging Home
LAGOS, NIGERIA — A Lagos property owner and cleric, Pastor Sunday Enikuomehin, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to telecommunications giant MTN Nigeria Communications PLC, demanding ₦25 million in compensation over alleged structural damages and safety threats caused by an adjacent telecom mast.
In a formal demand letter dated October 20, 2026, the resident’s legal counsel, Benson Enikuomehin & Co., accused MTN of gross negligence.
The firm states that the telecom mast, erected in 2010 next to the client’s property at No. 1 & 3, Maja Street, Eyita, Ikorodu, has continuously dropped “hard substances” and equipment debris onto the building’s roof.
According to the solicitors, the falling debris has shattered the roof, causing severe leaks whenever it rains and forcing the inhabitants to live under constant fear for their safety.
The letter claims that multiple complaints lodged through MTN’s on-site security personnel were completely ignored by the company’s management.
“The negligence of your company in placing this hazardous mast very close to our client’s property has resulted in monumental damages,” stated Amenawon Addo Esq., the Head of Chambers, who signed the document.
“Your company has a duty of care to ensure that its mast structures are safely engineered, regularly inspected, and properly maintained.”
The complainant is demanding immediate repairs to the compromised roof, a permanent halt to the falling objects, and ₦25,000,000 to cover property repairs alongside the “pain, anguish, and apprehension” suffered by the occupants over the years.
The legal firm warned that if MTN fails to resolve the issue within 14 days, they will initiate a lawsuit and escalate the matter to the appropriate federal telecommunications regulatory agencies.
