Police Broker Peace In Dispute Over Late Singer Toluwanisings’ Burial As Family, Associates Sign Undertaking
IBADAN, NIGERIA — The Oyo State Police Command has successfully intervened in a heated dispute surrounding the burial arrangements of the late popular singer Olayemi Bayonle Bolaji, widely known as Toluwanisings.
The intervention culminated on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, with all warring parties signing an official peace undertaking at the Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, effectively banning further public and social media hostility.
The dispute, which involved allegations of conspiracy, defamation of character, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, had sparked intense public exchanges and media updates across various communication channels.
Recognizing the threat to public order, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, summoned the deceased’s family members and close associates to a mediation meeting.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the singer’s wife, Mrs. Olayemi Elizabeth Damilola; his father, Mr. Muniru Olayemi; his personal assistant; and close associates Oyindamola Esther, Babadunni Gbolabo, and Comrade Lawal Ademola Rafiu.
Under the strict terms of the signed undertaking, all parties agreed to:
• Cease all public exchanges, media interviews, and discussions related to the singer’s death.
• Stop disseminating allegations or narratives on social media, blogs, radio, and print media.
• Restrain proxies, agents, and representatives from sponsoring or amplifying posts that could reignite tensions.
CP Olugbenga warned that the police command will show zero tolerance for any violations of the agreement.
He cautioned that anyone—including proxies—who uses the tragic demise of the singer to instigate hostility or disrupt public peace will face immediate arrest and prosecution.
The Command has also issued a strong appeal to bloggers, media practitioners, and the general public to respect the family’s privacy, exercise maximum restraint, and stop circulating unverified information regarding the case.
