The ELITES Publisher Releases New Book On Afe Babalola’s Achievements In Law, Education, And Philanthropy
Publisher of The ELITES Magazine, Kemi Akinyemi, has released a new book celebrating the extraordinary life, remarkable achievements and philanthropic exploits of renowned legal luminary, educationist, industrialist and philanthropist, Chief Afe Babalola, SAN.
The book, titled Afe Babalola (SAN): A Dynamo of Excellence in Law, Education, Philanthropy & Farming, is a remarkable account of the life and accomplishments of one of Nigeria’s most distinguished personalities, whose contributions to the legal profession, education, agriculture and humanity have continued to make an enduring impact.

Akinyemi, a multiple award-winning journalist, writer and former Assistant Editor of TheNEWS magazine, said the book chronicles the inspiring journey of a man who rose from humble beginnings in Ado-Ekiti to become one of the most celebrated legal practitioners in Nigeria and an internationally recognised advocate of excellence.
The book is not just another publication about an accomplished individual. It is a compelling narrative of determination, resilience, hard work, selflessness and an uncommon commitment to service. Through insightful interviews, profiles, tributes and personal accounts, it offers readers a fascinating glimpse into the life, philosophy and achievements of a man whose influence transcends the legal profession.
Born into a humble farming family, Babalola’s journey to greatness is a story of perseverance and an unyielding belief in the power of education. Despite not having the opportunity to attend a conventional secondary school, he pursued his education through private study and correspondence, eventually obtaining degrees in Economics and Law from the University of London. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1963 and attained the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 1987.
Beyond his remarkable achievements in law, the book explores Babalola’s transformation into an outstanding educationist and institution builder. His establishment of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), stands as one of the most remarkable expressions of his vision and commitment to educational development in Nigeria.
The university, which has grown into a leading institution of higher learning, reflects his determination to provide world-class education and create opportunities for future generations. His contributions to education also include the construction and donation of important facilities to institutions, scholarships for indigent but brilliant students and support for the development of educational infrastructure.
One of the most compelling aspects of the book is its documentation of Babalola’s extraordinary philanthropic disposition. His generosity cuts across social, ethnic and religious boundaries, with beneficiaries drawn from different walks of life.
From providing financial assistance to indigent students and empowering small-scale entrepreneurs to donating buildings to educational institutions, hospitals and professional organisations, Babalola has consistently demonstrated that true greatness lies not merely in personal accomplishments but in the ability to uplift others.
Among his notable philanthropic interventions are the construction of the Centre for Nuclear Medicine at the University College Hospital, Ibadan; the donation of auditoriums to the Faculties of Law at the University of Lagos and the University of Ado-Ekiti; support for the African Heritage Library in Ibadan; and the construction of Bar Centres for branches of the Nigerian Bar Association in Ibadan and Ado-Ekiti.
His generosity also extends to agriculture and rural development. Through various empowerment initiatives, he has supported farmers, provided financial assistance to beneficiaries and invested in agricultural production and processing as part of his commitment to food security and economic development.
The book equally examines Babalola’s passion for farming, an interest he developed from childhood and has sustained throughout his life. Today, he is involved in large-scale farming, including fish farming, poultry, piggery, teak plantations and the cultivation of various food and cash crops.
Akinyemi said one of the distinguishing features of Babalola’s life is his ability to translate personal success into opportunities for others. His philosophy of giving, she noted, is rooted in the conviction that happiness is best experienced when one makes other people happy.
The publication is also enriched by tributes from prominent Nigerians, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, former Chief Justice and eminent jurists, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, academics, business leaders, associates, friends and members of the Babalola family.
The foreword, written by veteran journalist Dare Babarinsa, titled The Seven Lives of Aare Afe Babalola, captures the many dimensions of a man whose accomplishments span law, education, farming, public service, administration and philanthropy.
The book also features an exclusive interview with Babalola in which he reflects on his humble beginnings, his journey into the legal profession, his philosophy of life, his family, his commitment to education and his passion for agriculture and philanthropy.
According to Akinyemi, the publication is a celebration of a life devoted to excellence, industry, compassion and service to humanity.
She noted that Babalola’s story offers valuable lessons for younger generations, particularly on the importance of perseverance, integrity, discipline, hard work and the responsibility that comes with success.
The book, she added, is a testament to the fact that greatness is not measured only by wealth, professional accomplishments or social status but also by the lives one touches and the enduring institutions one builds.
Indeed, Afe Babalola (SAN): A Dynamo of Excellence in Law, Education, Philanthropy & Farming is an inspiring account of a remarkable Nigerian whose life continues to demonstrate that true excellence finds its greatest expression in service to humanity.
