It’s Time To Go, I will Retire In 2023 – Former Lagos Governor, Fashola On His Political Future

Former Governor of Lagos state and current Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, has declared that he will retire from active political public service in 2023.

Fashola, who made this declaration recently while responding to a question on why he did not join the race for the nation’s 2023 presidency, noted that he would be going to his home after leaving office as minister in 2023.

In his words; “I told you I’m contesting for the presidency of my home town, I’m going home. You see, next year, it will be 35years since I left school, 1988 to 2023. So, if I took a public service career, I will retire next year, because the rule is 35years of service or 60years of age, and coincidentally, by next year, I will be 60years”.

Going further, Fashola alluded to the fact that he was leaving the stage for much younger persons to come into the system and make their marks. According to him; “I came in at 39, I’m going at 60, let some 30-year olds too come and start their journey. It’s time to go”.

Nevertheless, the former governor, expressed the believe that he would continue to serve the nation in the future after retirement. In his views, he will no longer require a title to contribute and serve the nation after 2023.
