NSCDC Urges Osun Residents To Embrace Peaceful Resolution Of Crisis 

The State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, has urged the residents of the State to resort to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) while resolving non-criminal cases of conflicts in order to decongest correctional centres across the country.

NSCDC Spokesperson, Atanda Olabisi In a statement said the 2i/c of the Command, Deputy Commandant of Corps (DCC), Adeoti Joseph who represented the State Commandant, Commandant Emmanuel Ocheja admonished the Residents to embrace peace at the refresher training organised for  Peace and Conflict Management desk officers serving at the Area Commands, Divisional Offices and outpost.

According to DCC Adeoti, the training was to equip the desk officers with peace-building, mediations and conflict management techniques

While giving an overview on Peace and Conflict Management, the Head of Unit,  Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) Abere Oluwafemi said ‘the unit deemed it fit to organise the refresher training for its personnel as conflicts are an integral part of modern societies.’ ACC Abere said residents of Osun State must learn to live together, irrespect of their differences 

ACC Abeere explained  further that peace has to do with freedom from disturbance, and where there is breach of the peace, mediation should be used to resolve  conflict between willing parties as stated in NSCDC (Amendment) Act 2007.

Four experienced resource persons from the unit also gave lectures  at the workshop, Chief Superintendent of Corps (CSC) Anjorin Oluwakemi spoke on the topic ” Roles and Qualities of a Mediator” , Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Christianah Bose Ojo tutored the participants on  ” Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)”, Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Okeke Phelomena also displayed her prowess on Reports Writing while Assistant Superintendent of Corps I (ASC I) Ademuyiwa Ayodeji spoke on Settlement Agreement.

After the lectures, participants were divided into various groups for class activity in order to put what they have learned into practice.

Speaking on behalf of the participants Assistant Superintendent of Corps II (ASC II) Kehinde Akanji said they have been taught the best approaches to conflict management and the application of ADR will help to refuce litigation and embrace peaceful resolution of crisis
