Lagos Shooting: Court Revokes Bail Granted Murder Suspect, Orders Defendant To Be Remanded In Ikoyi Correctional Centre

A Magistrate court 1, sitting in Yaba has revoked the bail earlier granted to a murder suspect who allegedly shot dead a businessman, Mr. Jelili Bakare last year in Sangotedo.

Her worship Adeola Olatunbosun in a short ruling today 6th April, 2022 directed that the defendant( Jonathan Kampani)  be handed over to the officers of correctional facility.

He’s to be remanded in Ikoyi correctional centre and the case transferred to a high court in Lagos.   

Magistrate Olatunbosun said this is based on the advice of the Lagos Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, that a prima facie has been established against the suspect. 

Mr. Olanrewaju Obadina (Chairman Human Rights Committee of ETI-OSA LAWYER’S FORUM, and Gabriel Peter, Esq from the Law firm of Sanni M M A and Co. Were in Court for the family of the bereaved. 

It would be recalled that Inspector Jonathan Kampani who was on a shooting spree allegedly shot dead Mr. Bakare last year in Sangotedo without any provocation.

The then Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu now retired AIG had visited the family of the bereaved and promised that justice will be served. He also visited the traditional ruler of the area, HRH Oba Tijani Akinloye, Ojomu of Ajiranland, where he assured him that the culprit will face the full wrath of the law.

Inspector Kampani was given an orderly room trial and sacked while he was being detained at the police facility. 

With the latest ruling, he’s expected to be produced next Tuesday at Justice Sherifat Sonaike  Court to continue with the trial.
