Just In: Troops Find Kidnapped Chibok Girl In Borno Forest With Baby
The Nigerian Army on Wednesday confirmed discovery of a woman believed to be one of the school girls kidnapped from the Chibok Secondary School since 2014.
Found with a baby believed to be her own, the Army said she was found in the forest and gave her name as Mary Ngoshe.
“Troops of 26 Task Force Brigade on patrol around Ngoshe in Borno State on 14 June 2022 intercepted one Mrs Mary Ngoshe and her son. She is believed to be one of the abducted girls from GGSS Chibok in 2014. Further exploitation ongoing.” The Nigerian Army said.
It further added that it believed the development was as a result of the mounting offensive against the insurgents in the area.
It explained further, “Ongoing offensive onslaught by troops of Operation Desert Sanity in conjunction with CJTF recorded another feat on 14 June 2022 as ISWAP terrorists were neutralized around Gurzum in Borno State. Terrorists market & camps were destroyed. Weapons amongst others were recovered.”
276 school girls were kidnapped from their school On the night of 14–15 April 2014.
Majority of them Christian students aged from 16 to 18 were abducted by the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram from the Government Girls Secondary School at the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria.
57 of the schoolgirls escaped immediately following the incident by jumping from the trucks on which they were being transported, and others have been rescued by the Nigerian Armed Forces on various occasions.
Hopes have been raised that the 219 remaining girls might be released, however some girls are believed to be dead.Amina Ali, one of the missing girls, was found in May 2016.
She claimed that the remaining girls were still there, but that six had died.
As of 14 April 2021, seven years after the initial kidnapping, over 100 of the girls remain missing.
