Lagos 2023: Anxiety In Sanwoolu’s Camp As He Appoints Another Cabinet Member From Jandor’s Local Government, After Picking Party Chairman, Senatorial Candidate From Same Ojo Council Area

That the 2023 Governorship election in Lagos state will be a battle royale between Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran popularly known as Jandor is like stating the obvious. As at the last count, Sanwo-Olu has hurriedly appointed another cabinet member from Jandor’s local government in Ojo, ostensibly to counter the growing popularity of the young politician in the area. After picking Hon Cornelius Ojelabi as the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Sanwo-Olu has sworn-in Hon Bolaji Kayode Roberts fondly known as Bibire yesterday.

Also, the Senatorial Candidate of the APC in Lagos West is former deputy governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule.

Adebule, who also hails from Jandor’s Ojo local government was picked in a controversial circumstances.

A form was hurriedly arranged for her after the two Senatorial aspirants; Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and Kayode Opeifa who bought the forms and appeared for screening have been cleared. All these according to sources was to placate the people as the 2023 election draws near.

Sources within the Alausa said the Badagry division where Jandor hails From has become centre of attraction, mainly because of the demographics which favours Jandor. Also, the fear that the Badagry division which has not been fairly treated in term of appointment and infrastructure development since the advent of the Fourth Republic in 1999 may be the reason behind the last minute appointment.

The appointment of Hon Bibire as Special Adviser is seen as a ploy to pacify the people to get some votes in the next year’s general election.

But will Bibire’s appointment alter the political calculation of the area? Some of the leaders from the ruling APC thought otherwise.

A source who craves anonymity said; “It’s a little too late. We have less than eight months to go now. The people of Badagry division are wiser now. This is the first time a strong political structure will put one of their own on the ballot. Even the agitation by the youths that they prefer one of them that would have a listening ear is now gaining momentum because of Jandor. So appointing Bibire as special adviser means nothing to the people. “Bibire’s appointment won’t change anything in the entire Badagry division of Ojo, Amuwo Odofin, Ajeromi/Ifelodun and Badagry Local Governments, as this is not the first time Ojo local government would be given a commissioner. As a matter of fact, we have had Deputy Governor twice with nothing to show for it.

“We understand their game and we can’t fall for it anymore”.
