PDP Crisis: Resign Honourably Now, Bode George Tells Ayu….Urges Rivers Governor, Nyesome Wike Not To Dump PDP
Former deputy national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George, has called on the national chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu to resign.
Speaking at a world press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, George maintains that Ayu should be honourable enough to honour his words that he would resign once a presidential candidate from the north emerges.
He, however, urged the Rivers state Governor, Mr Nyesome Wike not to join the APC despite the misgivings over the choice of the running mate to the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, adding that “you don’t win all the time.”
He said; “ In democracy , we must talk, exchange ideas. We must agree and disagree without actually disagreeable.
“Any organization with human beings will always have issues, but the ability to manage that crisis will be the determining factor. “I want to appeal to all sides to sheathe their swords. Nigerians are waiting for us and we must convince them that we can manage the resources of the country in an equitable manner. “They should all ceasefire. Statements of arrogance and innuendos that can destroy the party should stop forthwith.”
George explains that the founding fathers of the PDP had to bury their differences and come together for the benefit of the people.
“Zoning has sustained our democracy for this long because it’s the concept that established our party.
“My pleas is that all should ‘cool temper’ because if we don’t get it right this time around, this nation will never forgive us. Nigerians are waiting for the PDP.” He added.
For George, the position of the national security adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd) while reacting to the attack on the presidential guards that the Brigade of Guards was decimated is frightening.
Continuing, he said; “modern technology is readily available everywhere.
“In 1986 when I attended the War College in the United States as the president of class 30. As we sat down in the war room, the live screen was showing Tinubu Square in Lagos because I could see the CBN areas and the yellow buses. That was in 1986 through satellite technology, even drones now are readily available. Even if we can’t get the premium, we can always get the ones to get these Bandits that they have created an aura of invincibility around.
“ What is our NSA doing? He’s a very smart officer. Is the system denying him the opportunity to acquiring modern technology? I’m baffled because the younger generation is more brilliant.
Citing how the US got the Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri last week with precision without any collateral damage, George said Nigeria is in dire straits with the insecurity unabated.
On 2023 general election, George said it’s not yet uhuru. According to him the security situation of the country is scary.
“ My Fears is that if the insecurity continues, who will be bold enough to campaign or cast votes during election. These are serious issues we must consider. Are we thinking about it? It’s scaring. How will people go out to vote on the day of election?” He asked.
