Group Urges Ogun Governor To Tackle The Spate Of Kidnapping, Land Grabbing In Ewekoro 

A nongovernmental organization Centre for Democracy and Socio-Economic Rights,CEDESER, has urged the Ogun state governor Prince Dapo Abiodun to suspend all political campaigns in the state and pay serious attention to frightening rate of kidnapping, banditry and land grabbing by criminal elements who has held Ewekoro LGA and its environs in the state by the jugular in recent times.

The call was contained in a press statement issued on Monday by the group’s President, Comrade Michael Popoola Ajayi.

The statement read; “We are alarmed by the spate of kidnapping, harassment, molestation and maiming of innocent citizens in Ogun state especially in Ewekoro and the adjourning LGAs. The people in Obada, Awowo, Wasinmi, Itori, Papalanto, Ajipatu, Elere, Onigbedu and Kajola today lives in palpable fears as incidences of kidnapping for ransom by criminals who sometimes dressed in army uniform has now become a daily experiences in the area. “

“Also of grave concern is the activities of Ajagungbales (land grabbers) terrorising property developers and farmers from Ajiptu, Elere to Onigbedu led by one Owoeye who is said to be a notorious land grabbers and his criminal gangs who the people believes is been aided by the Police Area Commander in flagrant violation of the state’s anti land grabbing law.”

“ Unfortunately, while the people are faced with this serious security challenge, the state governor and the state police commands seems not perturbed as all their attention is focused ongoing politics and electioneering campaigns”

“We therefore called on the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to suspend all political campaigns to pay the desired attention to the security challenge in the areas already taken over by criminal elements.

“We also urge him to urgently strengthen Amotekun and the neglected Ogun State Socio-Orientation and Safety corps to compliment the seemingly overwhelmed federal security agencies in the sate.

“We equally call on the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole to investigate and ensure the arrest of the perpetrators of the heinous crimes and make to face justice.”
