Customs Impounds N91.59 Million Worth Of Goods From Smugglers In Kebbi

The Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi State Command, has in the last two weeks in the new year impounded goods worth N91.59 million from smugglers in Kebbi State, just as the new Controller send warning signals to smugglers that tough time awaits them this year.
Addressing newsmen at the Command Headquarters in Birnin-Kebbi, the new Controller, Dr. Ben. Oramalugo said section 167 gives Customers power to seize goods improperly imported in contravention of extant laws.
“We engaged in anti smuggling activities to protect our local industries and strengthen the Nigeria Border security in order not to allow terrorists to enter the Nigeria space.”
“The importance of revenue generation can not be over emphasized, Nigeria requires N6.31 trillion to service its debt and more to work as a Nation and as part of our mandatory we will create an avenue where only permissible goods From other neighbouring Countries and our indigenous goods will be traded without hindrance to achieve and surpass the Command target of N1.058 billion”. He said.
He said further that, following my director to our operatives to intensify vigilance across our vast bushes and all waterways, our undaunted efforts has stated yielding positive results in anti smuggling activities which results in in the seizure of items which includes the following, 8.975 litres of pms loded in 25 litre kegs, 189 bags of foreign parboiled rice.
Others are, 71 bags of imported sugar, 42 bales of imported clothings and 36 sacks of used shoes, 74 cartoons of bleaching cream, 110 solar batteries, 105 cartoons of medicines, 7 used vehicles as means of conveyance and 1 tanner truck among others.
