SDP’s Godiya Akwashiki Retains Senatorial Seat For Record 2nd Term

Senator Godiya Akwashiki has won the senatorial election of Nasarawa North district held on Saturday February 25 for a record second term in office.

The returning officer for the election, Professor Ilemona Adofu, declared the results at INEC’s collation centre, College of Education, Akwanga in the early hours of Monday February 27, 2023.

According to him, Akwashiki of the Social Democratic Party(SDP) won with 44,471 votes while Danladi Halilu Envulu-Anza of the governing All Progressives Congress(APC) came second with 32,058 votes.

The returning officer said Nathaniel Aboki of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) had 11,212 votes and former Senator, John Danboyi of the New Nigeria People’s Party(NNPP) scored 4083 votes to come fourth in the race.

A total of thirteen political parties fielded candidates for the election.

Senator Akwashiki was first elected in 2019 to represent the district at the Nigerian Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC).
