What started as a joke on how much Rivers state governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike spend on champagne, Whiskey and other assorted spirits have come into the open.

His predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi was first to mock him that Wike spends more money on spirits than project.

Amaechi put it coservatively that Wike spends an average of N50 million on alcholics drinks, but those who are close to the Rivers helmsman said the N50 million is a far too small from what Wike spends on boose.

Even Wike has confirmed that he’s a lover of wine and other assorted drinks.

Wike was in his usual element recently when he mocked the presidential candidate of his party, Atiku Abubakar over his protest to the INEC national headquarters, Abuja on the outcome of February 25,2023 presidential and national assembly elections.

Hear him, ” As they were protesting, I just sat down and took a 40-year whisky. I called some of my friends and opened the 40-year-old whisky as they were protesting,” Wike had said.

Infruated by Wike’s mockery, Atiku’s media aide Phrank Shaibu has returned Wike’s salvo thus: “For the sake of clarity, the protest occurred around 11.30am. Governor Wike says he was drinking whisky during the protest at 11.30am on a Monday. This reveals the sort of man he is – a dipsomaniac who abandons his official duties on Monday morning to binge on whisky.

“This explains the reason for his hoarse voice, which is similar to that of a motor park tout. It is obvious that Governor Wike also dances under the influence of alcohol. No wonder it is characterized by aesthetic vulgarity.

“It is a common rule that you do not drink and drive. Unfortunately, a drunkard is the one steering the wheel of governance in Rivers State. This is more disturbing because he is married to a judge. Indeed, the term, as sober as a judge, could not even rub off positively on the cantankerous governor.”

Shaibu further disclosed that “Wike’s vituperations and wailings” had nothing to do with making sure that the south produced the next president.

A source close to the G-5 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party said if not all, Wike, Abia state governor, Victor Ikpeasu and another governor from the Middle Belt usually compete with each other on Alcohol.

To put it middly, the source said Wike doesn’t care a hoot how much alcoholics drinks gulp from Rivers State’s coffer.” Wike wine at a sitting goes for N1m and he usually brag about it. Another one dont land, Wike will tell his colleague governors reffering to federal allocation to the state whenever he is on a drinking spree.

The Abia state governor because of the lean financial situation of his state only buys a champagne that goes for 75k.

Some concerned Nigerians have expressed reservations that most of the state governors have little or no project to show for the humongous federal allocation and internally generated revenue as huge part of it are spent on frivolities and other issues different from pressing state matters. Recently, when the news of how much some oil rich states have received under the present administration was revealed, it was shocking that most of them can hardly account for what they used the several billions that accrued to their state for.
