Kebbi Power Crisis: Birnin-Kebbi In Total Darkness For Four Days As Bagudu Directs SSG To Intervene

From Ayodele Ajoge, Birnin-Kebbi

Out going Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State on Monday  directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Babale Umar Yauri to intervened in the last Saturday face-off between men of the Nigerian Army and staff of Kaduna Electric Distribution Company  (KAEDCO) which has put the State capital in total darkness for four days now.

Bagudu while disclosing this at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi said If consumers do not pay their bills to the electric company it would become difficult for it to service their loans.

“It will also be difficult to have steady power supply in the state. We were subsidizing electricy consumption before but it got to a time we can no longer continue because we are getting the funds for it from different financial institutions.”

It would be recalled that because of the face-off KAEDCO had with the Soldiers  since last Saturday, the KAEDCO decided to punish the entire state capital (Birnin-Kebbi) with total black out  since on Saturday.

With the Governor’s directive, the SSG is expected to meet with the management of KAEDCO and Army authorities in Dukku Barracks to resolve the lingering crisis that has thrown the entire state capital into darkness for four days now.

Meanwhile, a senior army officer in Dukku Barracks, Birnin kebbi, who does not want his name in the print has said the soldiers that went to the electric company did not beat KAEDCO’s staff as erroneously rumored.

He said it was true that some aggrieved soldiers went to the electric company’s premises but did not touch any of its staff, as fake news progenitors would want the whole world to belief.

The senior army officer added that the soldiers were there to lodge their grievances over how epileptic power supply by KAEDCO had spoilt many of the things their wives were selling to make ends meet especially widows and those whose husbands are in various war fronts in the North East, North West, North Central etc.
