Southwest Group Slam Akeredolu Over Criticism Of NASS Leadership Zoning
A group known as the Southwest Democrats, has slammed the Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu over what they described as his ‘reckless’ criticism, of the decision of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress,APC, over zoning of National Assembly leadership positions, for the tenth National Assembly.
The group also noted that Akeredolu’s comments are the worst kind of diatribe, and have more tendency to disunite the Country and the Party, than the zoning arrangement done by the party.
The group said attempt by Akeredolu, to instigate another round of dispute along ethnicity within the party, is meant at lowering the discourse crucial to achieving the campaign promises of the incoming administration, of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to Nigerians.
Speaking through a press statement, the President of the group, Comrade Oluwatobi Johnson, cautioned Governor Akeredolu against instigating members of the party, against its leadership, and act in a manner, expected of a Statesman and leader of the party.
Recall, that the National Working Committee of the APC, recently came out with a zoning arrangement, for principal officers of the incoming National Assembly.
The NWC in the zoning arrangement, Zoned and nominated Senator Godswill Akpabio from the South south geopolitical zone, for the Position of the President of the Senate and to be Deputized by Senator Barau from the Northwest.
The party also nominated Tajudeen Abass from Northwest as the Speaker with Benjamin Kalu from the Southeast as his deputy.
Johnson said Akeredolu’s stand against the zoning by the party, shows he got it wrong on all fronts and missed the point. He said what should be the Concern of all patriotic members of the party now, is the delivery, of good governance and not the politics of ethnicity and other undue sentiments.
“Furthermore, we wish to remind Governor Akeredolu that none of those whose nomination is being opposed by him, contributed less to the victory of the party, and as such, shouldn’t be disqualified as expected by Governor Akeredolu.
“We, therefore, urge the National leadership of the party, to remain steadfast, in its decision, while exploring every avenue towards reconciling aggrieved aspirants, ahead of the Inauguration of the assembly.”
