The Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abdullah Shawesh has called on the International Committee of the Red Cross, (ICRC) to verify report of inhuman treatment of prisoners by the Israeli authorities.

Shawesh alleged that no fewer than 9,000 Palestinians are held behind bar by the Israeli government since October 7 retaliation.

The envoy, who spoke to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, decried that Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody were being maltreatment and abused, adding that many of them are in miserable state.

He said: “More than 9000 Palestinians detainees in the Osraelo prisons have been subjected to unprecedented retaliatory and punitive measures since October 7th.

“In the occupied West Bank, 7170 Palestinian detainees have been held since October 7 up to today, including 215 women, 430 children, 52 journalists, and 3574 administrative detainees.”

He, therefore, called “On the ICRC to uphold its mandated duties in accordance with international law and visit the Israeli prisons and detention centres to verify the inhumane and miserable situation that the prisoners are subjected to.”
