Remembering Ibidun Ajayi-Ighodalo: A Tribute To A Remarkable Soul, By Esther Ijewere

Today, June 14th, always brings a unique wave of emotions since you left us. Perhaps it’s because the number 14 holds a special significance, being the day of my birth.

I will never forget the way you saw through me the first time I reached out to you. I had intended to feature you, but you sensed something deeper in my voice—a cry for help. Words cannot express the depth of my gratitude for the silent moves you made on my behalf.

During those dark moments in my life, I felt abandoned, as if even God had forgotten me. While many saw only the surface of my predicament, you dove deeper, providing me with the unwavering support I desperately needed.

When you passed away, and I wrote, “May our helper not depart suddenly,” many didn’t fully grasp the profound meaning behind those words.

Today, I find myself at a loss for words. The pain and sorrow resurface, and my strength falters every June 14th. But I hold on to the hope that one day, I will be able to pen a proper eulogy, capturing the essence of your extraordinary spirit.

‘Alanu mi, a se ore ma je ki eti keta gbo’. Your impact on my life and the lives of countless others will never be forgotten. Your compassion, love, and dedication to helping those in need continue to inspire us.

May your soul rest in eternal peace.I dedicate the ‘blessing’ I received in my email today to your memory. Forever in our hearts, Ibidunni Ajayi- Ighodalo
