Quela Birds Invade Rice Farms In Kebbi, Destroyed 75,000 Hectares

Rice farmers in Arugung have decried the invasion of their farms by the dangerous quela birds that have destroyed no fewer than 75,000 hectares of farm crops.
One of the farmers who spoke with the journalists, Mama Garba Rabe lamented that they are in serious problem, apart from high cost of fuel prices and fertilizer also the quela birds are here, one cannot eat his breakfast at home if not bird will eat all his rice field.
He said he spent over 20 years cultivating rice here, but I’ve never seen a birds Disaster like this, no matter how u push them away, they keep coming back, as u can see we have to harvest before time, to minimize the loss.
“The birds are too much, just too many, they are flying in thousands, and by the time they landed on a rice field within few seconds they will finish it all.” He lamented.
The Argungu local government council chairman, Alhaji Salihu Argungu also told newsmen that, they are making effort to wipe out the dangerous birds by identifying their area of resting.
He said, once they identify it they will go on massive spray to wipe them out.
