Exclusive:Lagos Council Boss Buys Rickety Cars For Officials …. Councillors Kick

Almost two years after swearing-in, the chairman of Itire-Ikate local council development area, Hon Akeem Apatira is yet to buy the statutory official cars for 18 officials, including his vice chairman, Mrs Yetunde Gimba.

The breakdown shows that seven councillors, Ten (10) supervisors and secretary to the local government, Kehinde Baruwa are groaning under the ‘jackboot’ of Apatira who is running the council like personal fiefdom.

Sources close to the council told Newsnow that Apatira had withdrawn the money which is about N142.5m from the coffers of the council.

Instead of the car specification that the party leadership across the state agreed that council chairmen should purchase for their officials according to the buoyancy of the council, Apatira had jettisoned this, he is shopping for accidented car for his officials. Of all the officials, one Councillor and two supervisors got accidented cars which have become unserviceable.

More worrisome is the fact that the cars which are supposed to facilitate the movement of the officials to carry out their daily activities have made the three officials indebted to mechanics as the cars break down at will, while others have continued to suffer in silence over their plight under Apatira’s dictatorship.

According to the source, “no one dare question him, he Apatira will declare the official ‘person non grata’. He is in firm control of the council as other leaders have ‘siddon look’ while Apatira has continued to ride roughshod over his officials.”

Attempts to get the chairman’s reaction was unsuccessful as at the time of filling this report.
