Emefiele: DSS Open Brandishing Of Guns In A Civil Court Unacceptable – Ogunye
A Lagos lawyer, Mr Jiti Ogunye has described the open display and brandishing of guns by the operatives of the DSS in court during the trial of the suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele as unacceptable.
The Civil Rights lawyer said ironically, Emefiele was charged with gun running, adding that it was the DSS that was displaying bravado in a civil court.
Ogunye, who spoke on Channels Television programme, Politics Today, monitored in Lagos on Tuesday said the open brandishing of guns in a civil court shows that the rule of force trumped the rule of law in Nigeria.
He, however, maintains that the Correctional Service officials need not to engage the DSS in fisticuffs.
Ogunye said if the DSS has additional charges or investigation on Emefiele, they ought to let the court know during the bail application.
He said; ” What happened today is unacceptable. The DSS operatives brandishing guns in a civil court. What it meant is that the rule of force trumped rule of law. The bravado displayed by the DSS is unnecessary. “
It would be recalled that Emefiele travail began on June 9 when he was placed on indefinite suspension by President Bola Tinubu for alleged abuse of office . He was arrested the following day at his Ikoyi home in Lagos by the DSS.
He was flown to Abuja and kept for several weeks in the DSS facility without trial until two courts in Abuja ruled that he should be released within seven days or charge to court.
