Nigeria’s Music Industry; Mortuary With Departments : Adieu Mohbad
By AjikeOkin
The haunters of Glory have struck again. The blood sucking vampires have hit this one.
Sadly, this time they hit IMOLE, he that LIGHTS UP THE WORLD. Mohbad’s story has exposed the total decay in the society from loss of parental control , influence of drug’s among the youths, cultural deterioration , security breakdown , juvenile delinquency, societal disintegration, structureless music industry , etc.
To understand the story of Ilerioluwa Dimeji Aloba popularly known as MOHBAD there is need to trace his family background. Mohbads father Prophet Joseph Aloba is a pastor who is also into music.
Mohbads musical interest evidently started from being a backup singer in his fathers band.
After his mother Mrs Promise Aloba’s separation from the father his father strived hard to give him education having had distinctions and credit in his GCE exam.
Mohbad dropped out of college to pursue his musical career against his fathers wish.
IMOLE as fondly called by those close to him joined a popular music label who signed him on. In less than two years IMOLE quited the label and had to battle with the consequences of the bond between the brotherhood.
Obviously from his many cry out to the police, his mother , etc for help the brotherhood had deeper secrets that IMOLE couldn’t reveal .
Many thought he was going senile when he cried out at different times .
He lived in fear of the unknown seeing death everyday but couldn’t confide the secrets of the brotherhood to anyone except use his music as a weapon to expose his weakness. His song titled Story spelt it all out.
He recounted where he was coming from as a poor lad from humble background and as one who wasn’t sure of who he was and where he was going.
He exposed further his entanglement with the brotherhood and seeked for his parents prayers in his sojourn.
Mohbad’s story has helped further to expose that a music industry that has been built over the years on hardwork and integrity has been taken over by charlatans , drug lord and become a place for cultism. IMOLE’s death has shown our weaknesses as parents. Unbelievable watching his mother who abandoned him for over 15years coming out to seek justice with shed of crocodile tears. It is amazing watching those in authorities and celebrities turning his mothers house to a tourism center to show condolences.
Music association has also failed itself as many rudderless associations formed today that should give guidance and platform to the youths end up fighting aggressively and antagonizing one another till eternity. It is heartbreaking to see that some are also using the boys story to try to get more popular and build up more followers on their blogs.
If Mohbad’s death doesn’t sanitize the music industry after so much revelation here and there then we should expect the worst to come in the future.
Adieu MOHBAD
