Kano Hisbah Defies Federal High Court Order On Celebrity TikToker Murja Kunya
The Sharia police in Kano state popularly called Hisbah Board has defied the order of a Federal High Court to produce controversial TikToker Murja Ibrahim Kunya before Justice M. A. Liman on Thursday 14th March 2024 following the application seeking bail and release of Murja from Hisbah custody.
Murja Kunya has been in Hisbah custody for over a month without bail.
The Kano State Hisbah Board had arrested Murja at her residence in the Tishama Hotoro area of Kano over a month ago following concerns over the perceived social media influencer’s negative influence on the youths.
Murja had since vehemently denied all charges against her.
Following her continued detention without bail, Murja approached the Federal High Court Kano for the enforcement of her fundamental human rights in a motion exparte dated 29th February and filed 7th March 2024 in suit FHC/KN/CS/77/2024.
Ruling on the application on 7th March, Justice Liman ordered “That the Applicant is hereby granted leave to apply for an order of Certiorari. That the Application for bail is put in abeyance and in its place an order of habeas corpus is hereby issued directing the 3rd Respondent to produce the body of the Applicant before the Court on the 14/03/2024.”
On Thursday 14th March when the Hisbah Board was to produce the applicant, they failed to do so, forcing the Presiding Judge, Justice Liman to adjourn the case to Thursday 21st March to give another opportunity to the Hisbah Board to produce the applicant before the court.
