Afenifere Denies Appointing Acting Secretary General

The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and socio-political organization, Afenifere, has declared that it has not made any fresh appointments into its national executive committee in recent times, particularly that of the Secretary General.

According to the National Publicity Secretary of the organization, Comrade Jare Ajayi, this clarification has become necessary in view of an insinuation making the rounds that an appointment was made at the Caucus meeting that took place in the house of the Leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, OFR, in Akure, Ondo State, on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

“In truth, the meeting took notice of some offices that need to be filled. But the decision to do this was postponed until a later date. The Caucus however recognized and applauded the officers and others who are working hard for the progress of the organization and urged them to continue to function in their respective capacities. But for emphasis, NO new officer was appointed whether in an acting capacity or whatever.

” As such, any information insinuating that Abagun Kole Omololu was appointed as Acting Secretary General is fake.

“Caucus members acknowledge that he has, for a while, been taking minutes etc, as a Secretary would do and asked him to continue.” That was what the publicity secretary told journalists while briefing them after the meeting.

In the current press release, Ajayi categorically stated that asking someone to be carrying out a particular duty does NOT, in itself, amount to an appointment! No specific office was mentioned, neither the name of anyone mentioned in respect of any office. And the publicity secretary could not have announced an appointment that was not made! So, anyone claiming to have been appointed into any office at the said meeting is living in a phantasy world.

Three substantive national officers present at the meeting were the Legal Adviser, Right Honourable Akin Onigbinde, SAN, the National Organizing Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu and the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi.
