In Kebbi, 8 Almajiris Die At Clay Mining Site

Eight street urchins popularly called Almajiris were last weekend killed by clay they were mining as the heap of the clay reportedly caved in on them and buried them alive and died as a result before they could be rescued. 

It was gathered that tragedy occurred as the almajiris who were Islamic pupils studying Qur’an under a popular Islamic Cleric, Malam Dan-Umma in Badariya area, a surbub of Birnin Kebbi, the State  Capital.

The unfortunate incident, also led to the hospitalisation of two other Almajiris, now receiving treatment for injuries sustained.

The deceased pupils and those injured were reported to be mining clay at the Dukku Hill when it caved in and trapped them. 

However, the Governor of the State, Comrade Nasir Idris who is on an official trip abroad, sent a high powered delegation comprising of Commissioners and Special Advisers led by the Head of Service, Alhaji Safiyanu  Garba Bena to condole with the families of the departed.

He however, doled out the sum of N20 million to the Malam and the family of the deceased.
