Kebbi Police Commissioner Speaks On Planned Protest

Police high Command in Kebbi State have assured of it preparedness towards ensuring conducive atmosphere during the expected peaceful protest which commences on 1st August, 2024 across the federation, organised by some groups of people.
This assurance was given by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bello Sani at a press conference with Journalists operating in the State.
He added; “as we are all aware that, Nigerians have the constitutional right to organise peaceful protest for whatever reasons, the Kebbi State Police Command in collaboration with other security agencies will not hesitate to clampdown on any group of people that might attempt to cause disturbance of public peace or unwanted destruction of critical public infrastructures in disguise of peaceful protest in Kebbi State.
“Consequently, threat analysis has been conducted, whereby some flash points across the state have been identified and the Police tactical teams in synergy with other security agencies will be deployed with a view to forestalling any unforeseen circumstances”. He said.
The police boss therefore called on all groups planning for this peaceful protest to provide the command with the following details, which includes proposed routes and assembly points.
Expected duration of the protest, names and contact details of leaders of the protest, measures to prevent hijacking the protest by criminal elements.
Pointing out that this will enable the Command to provide adequate security during and after the protest, design specific measures to avoid conflict, establish clear communication with protest leaders and minimise the risk of violence and other criminal activities.
“Moreover, I am appealing to the protester to work closely with the Police and other security agencies, follow the law and adhere to the international standards for peaceful assembly with a view to ensure their rights are exercised safely and successfully without any hitch.
“At this juncture, I want to assure the peace loving people of Kebbi State to go about their lawful businesses on the date slated for the planned peaceful protest, as security agencies in the State are fully prepared and determined to guarantee their security and safety”.
He pointed out that the proactive security measures taken by the security Agencies, we are going to witness a peaceful protest come tomorrow the 1st August, 2024, in Kebbi State.
