Akobundu Urges ADC Party Faithful To Remain Steadfast, Says Resolve To Rescue Nigeria Is On Course
Senator Austin Akobundu (Abia Central) has urged members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) not to be fazed by recent defections from the party but remain steadfast in “our collective resolve to lead Nigeria out of her current woes.”
The Senator stated this in a statement released by his media office in Abuja on Wednesday, 6th May, 2026.
While acknowledging that those who defected acted within their rights, Akobundu asserted that the cause to reverse Nigeria’s “current gory state of insecurity, poverty, hunger, and disease…requires perseverance and strategic collaboration,” and not “movements defined only by convenience.”

Our Resolve is Unshaken: A Message to all ADC Faithful in Abia State and Beyond
My Dear Party Faithful,
Following recent developments in our nation’s politics, particularly as it concerns our great party, the ADC, it has become pertinent that I address you on the issue in order to mark a clear and distinct path for us all, a path that is based on principle, conviction and virtue rather than on fleeting narrow interests.
As we are all aware, some of our members, including prominent ones, have sought membership away from our great party, the ADC. While we do not begrudge them, I wish to state categorically clear that our politics is not based on fleeting gains but is motivated by a genuine cause to rescue Nigeria from her current gory state of insecurity, poverty, hunger, and disease. Such a cause requires perseverance and strategic collaboration among patriots with the genuine interests of the common masses at heart. Such a cause can not be achieved by movements defined only by convenience.
I must sincerely thank you all for your demonstration of strength in the face of what seems like a drawback, clarity in the face of chaos, and conviction in the face of confusion. What has happened should not demoralise anyone, rather it should serve as a springboard for renewed motivation to ensure that the movement of a few from our great party does not dampen our collective resolve to lead Nigeria out of her current woes.
Based on the foregoing and after wide consultations, I wish to state that I have chosen to remain in ADC and join other nationalists from across every section of the country to pursue our challenging but lofty dream of achieving the noble ideals of our great party for the Nigerian people.I, therefore, call on our members to remain steadfast.
Indeed, this is not the time to waver; it is the time for Nigeria to Arise and Shine.
Together, we can do it!
Thank you.
ADC… Arise and Shine Nigeria!
Senator Austin Akobundu
Abia Central Senatorial District
