The second edition of the prestigious Ex-Internationals Cup, organised by the Hajji Gafar Liameed led Lagos FA, kicked off with lots of football dramas, excitements and goals rush across different centres in Lagos State.
The epochal football tournament that has continued to provide former Nigeria international players the platform to turn coach-mentor, as they adopts community teams, has unwittingly become a most important live wire for grassroots football development.
Expectedly, the Bet9ja sponsored tournament features 32 Ex-International players including left-footed wizard Wasiu Ipaye, midfield dynamo Friday Ekpo, Waidi Akanni, goals poacher Victor Agali, Mba Agbai, Bode Babington, Taiwo Oloyede, Shakiru Giwa, Joseph Dosu, Clement Temile, Jide Oguntuase, Loveday Omoruyi and Victor Ikpeba, amongst other illustrious football legends.
And matchday one produced somewhat shocking, but interesting results, as FC Giwa thrashed FC Temile 5-2. Against the pundits books, top rated FC Ekpo lost at home 1-3 to FC Ipaye.
Other results are FC Babington 2-1 FC Dosu, FC Oguntuase 0-1 FC Omoruyi.
It was indeed a goals rush, as the four matches played on matchday one produced 15 goals, to set the pace for more goals, excitements and a very intensely contested tournament.
