By Akeem Busari
The outcome of the Osun governorship election has been described as laudable and foremost, a victory for democracy and as well as, a powerful statement about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to democratic principles.
Nigerians from all walks of life have have equally been commenting on it, contrary to widely held belief that the ruling party, All Progressive Congress, would do everything to influence the outcome of the elections.
Speaking on the Osun governorhip elections and what it portends for the future of democracy in the country, the national coordinator of leading youth advocacy group, Young Professionals For Tinubu (YP4T), Hon. Alex Oware, described the outcome of the election as a further demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unflinching and agelong commitment to the promotion and protection of democratic values.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has continued to demonstrate his confidence in the power of the ballot. Aṣíwájú has consistently advocated the principle of “one man, one vote” and called for free, fair and transparent elections across the country.
“I want us to truly reflect on the statement of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while congratulating Governor Ademola Adeleke, as he said, “a winner today, can become a loser tomorrow, and a loser today, can become a winner, tomorrow.
“The Osun State election, therefore, represents another opportunity to demonstrate that advocacy in practice, which is a testament to his credentials as a true constitutional democrat,” Oware, remarked.
“The Young Professionals For Tinubu, has a growing membership across the country, and we’re equally on ground during the Osun State elections. Beyond politics, we remain totally committed to the betterment of the Nigerian society and of course, the empowerment of the youths.
“We’re proud of President Bola Tinubu. He is not a proponent of “do-or-die” elections.
He doesn’t run a “religious war” election, nor does he need to summon pastors and reverends to cajole people into voting for him or his party.
“That’s the hallmark of a true democrat,” the renowned youth and social advocate, added.
