Auditor-General’s Report: NIDCOM Decries ‘Blackmail’, Says It Will Only Respond To NASS, OAGF
ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Management of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has dismissed recent online reports concerning an alleged Auditor-General for the Federation (OAGF) report as a coordinated attempt to blackmail and distract the agency from its core mandate.
In an official statement released by the commission’s management, NIDCOM stated firmly that it would not succumb to external pressures or media back-and-forth orchestrated by entities seeking to extort Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the federal government.
“Our attention has been drawn to reports online about an Auditor-General’s report on NIDCOM,” the statement read. “This is definitely another attempt to blackmail and distract the Commission. NIDCOM will not be distracted.”
Addressing the substance of the audit queries, the commission clarified that it remains fully open, transparent, and accountable to the law. However, the management emphasized that it will follow established official channels rather than responding to media trials.
NIDCOM assured the public that it stands ready to present its records to legitimate statutory authorities once the formal invitations are issued.
“When NIDCOM is formally informed and asked to report to the relevant agencies, particularly the National Assembly committees and the AGF’s office, it will,” the management stated. “In the meantime, we will not be dragged into an exchange with organisations and individuals whose stock in trade is to blackmail and extort MDAs.”
The commission reiterated its commitment to institutional transparency, concluding that it will unequivocally answer to the appropriate government oversight organisations whenever it is officially requested to do so.
