From Gregorian Class Of ’85 To Nigeria’s Top Cop: IGP Olatunji Disu Crowned With Lifetime Achievement Award In Lagos

LAGOS — It was a night of immense pride and nostalgia as the St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Association rolled out the red carpet to honor one of Nigeria’s most powerful law enforcement figures: the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
At a glamorous reception held in Lagos on Saturday, September 26, 2026, the historic alumni association bestowed its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award upon IGP Disu, celebrating over three decades of unrelenting dedication to national security and policing excellence.
A Journey of Excellence
The event, which brought together top dignitaries, captains of industry, and elite alumni, served as a homecoming for the police chief. For IGP Disu, the recognition marks a poetic milestone in a stellar career that began right within the walls of the college, where he graduated in 1985.
Just seven years later, in 1992, Disu entered the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. Over the next 34 years, his rise through the ranks was marked by tactical brilliance, leading high-stakes units like the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the elite Intelligence Response Team (IRT), before his historic appointment as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police in February 2026.
Alma Mater Pride
The joint celebration—which also recognized other distinguished old boys like Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Dr. Olayemi Cardoso—highlighted St. Gregory’s College’s long-standing reputation for grooming leaders who shape the destiny of the nation.
Accepting the award, a visibly moved IGP Disu stated that no honor compares to being recognized by the very institution that molded his character. He credited the foundational values of his alma mater for guiding his career and reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to transforming the Nigeria Police Force into a transparent, people-centered institution.
