President Tinubu Concludes European Vacation, Flies To Lagos For Abiola Movie Premiere, And 2027 Strategy Meetings
LAGOS, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially ended his working vacation in Europe and departed Paris, France, for his return journey to Nigeria. The President’s aircraft is expected to land at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos later this evening, September 29, 2026.
According to an official statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu opted to fly directly to Lagos to honor the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the widely recognized martyr of Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
On Independence Day, October 1, the President will attend the premiere of a movie dedicated to Abiola—the winner of the annulled June 1993 presidential election—at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.
During his stay in Lagos, President Tinubu is also scheduled to hold a series of strategic, multi-day meetings with political associates and leaders as early preparations begin for the 2027 general elections.
Thepresident initially departed Abuja on August 30 for his working vacation, spending one week in London before proceeding to Paris. His time in France was marked by several high-profile diplomatic and business engagements, including a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Tinubu also held talks with major corporate figures, including Vincent Bolloré, whose Bolloré Group controls extensive media interests like Canal+, MultiChoice, and Universal Music Group. Additionally, he met with Nigerian billionaire and Chairman of First Holdings, Femi Otedola.
A major economic highlight of the trip occurred last week when President Tinubu witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ogun State Government and global maritime logistics giant DP World. The company plans to invest $7 billion to construct the Gateway deep seaport in Ogun Waterside and develop a surrounding Blue Marine Economic Zone.
President Tinubu is expected to return to the nation’s capital, Abuja, following the conclusion of his political and ceremonial engagements in Lagos.
