SDP’s Adewole Adebayo Pledges ‘Three-Pronged Revolution’ For Nigerian Teachers On World Teachers’ Day

ABUJA, NIGERIA — The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has promised a sweeping overhaul of the nation’s education system, pledging to transform teaching into one of Nigeria’s most attractive professions if elected.

In a special World Teachers’ Day statement released on October 5, 2026, by the Adebayo-Bugaje Presidential Campaign, the candidate saluted Nigerian educators for their unmatched resilience, creativity, and enduring commitment to national development despite decades of systemic neglect.

Honouring a Legacy of Resilience

Reflecting on the history of the profession, Adebayo recalled the 1931 founding of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) by Alvan Ikoku and other pioneer nationalists. He noted that the “spirit of 1931” remains alive today as teachers continue to deliver excellent results while facing dilapidated infrastructure, lack of modern tools, and delayed entitlements.

“We cannot expect a 21st-century educational miracle from 19th-century infrastructure and demoralized personnel,” Adebayo argued, adding that every major national achievement traces its roots back to the patience and dedication of a teacher.

The Three-Pronged Revolution

To address these deep-rooted challenges, the Adebayo-Bugaje administration unveiled a blueprint focused on three revolutionary pillars:

Super-Adequate Remuneration: Restructuring salary scales, allowances, and pensions to guarantee premium wages for educators.

Modern Infrastructure: Transforming traditional classrooms into clean, tech-driven hubs equipped with digital tools and modern laboratories.

Absolute Institutional Respect: Restoring professional autonomy, dignity, and societal prestige to teachers across primary, secondary, and tertiary tiers.

The statement, signed by Comrade Mark Adebayo, Head of the Directorate of Media and Communications, closed with a direct message of reassurance to educators nationwide: “We see you, we value you, and help is on the way.”
