Tragedy In Akure As Truck Crushes Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) Along Hospital Road
AKURE, NIGERIA — A routine traffic enforcement exercise turned fatal on Friday after an oncoming truck crushed a Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) to death in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The incident, which occurred along the busy Hospital Road opposite Mega Primary School, threw the immediate community into panic and mourning.
According to eyewitnesses, the officer was attempting to halt the heavy-duty vehicle for a document check when the tragedy unfolded.
The officer reportedly stepped directly onto the fast lane to intercept the truck. Due to the vehicle’s momentum and speed, the driver was unable to bring the truck to an immediate stop, pinning and crushing the officer on the asphalt.
Emergency responders and colleagues of the deceased rushed to the scene, but the officer succumbed to the catastrophic injuries instantly. The chaotic aftermath saw bystanders in deep distress as the truck veered off course, ultimately slamming into a nearby building.
Local authorities have commenced an investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
