NAFDAC Raids Lagos Trade Fair Complex, Seizes ₦2B In Fake Alcohol
LAGOS, Nigeria — In a major blow to illicit manufacturers, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismantled a massive counterfeit alcoholic beverage ring operating inside the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex.
The targeted raid, executed by operatives of the Investigation & Enforcement (I&E) Directorate, resulted in the seizure of adulterated drinks and production materials valued at over ₦2 billion.
Acting on actionable intelligence, enforcement officers swooped on the complex and uncovered more than 20 illegal stores disguised as makeshift parking structures. Investigators caught suspects red-handed blending chemicals to mimic premium liquor brands, altering expiration dates on stale drinks, and stockpiling banned imported items.
Two suspects were arrested at the scene, while several others managed to escape.
NAFDAC officials warned that these adulterated beverages pose a severe threat to public health, capable of causing organ failure and fatal poisoning.
With the festive season approaching, the agency has intensified its crackdowns and urges citizens to report suspicious manufacturing activities directly via its official hotline: 0800-1-NAFDAC (0800-1-623322).
