Otedola Hosts Lagos Deputy Governor Hamzat, Backs Him As ‘Incoming Governor’
Billionaire businessman and Chairman of First HoldCo, Femi Otedola, has publicly endorsed Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, for the state’s top political job, warmly describing him as the “incoming governor.”
Otedola hosted a private dinner at his Lagos residence in honor of Hamzat, who is the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 elections. The high-profile event drew some of Nigeria’s most prominent business leaders, including Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and the Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu.

Reflecting on their decades-long relationship, Otedola shared a nostalgic post on X (formerly Twitter) revealing that their bond traces back 49 years to their boarding school days, where they shared a bunk bed.
“Yesterday, I hosted dinner in honour of Dr Obafemi Hamzat, the incoming governor of Lagos state,” Otedola stated. “Our relationship dates back 49 years ago when we shared a bunk bed in boarding school.”
Otedola lauded the deputy governor’s consistency, praising him as a leader defined by deep integrity, honesty, sincerity, and fairness. He noted that Hamzat’s strong moral principles and character have remained entirely unchanged since their childhood days.
