YDV Mourns Pa Fasoranti, Rallies Yoruba Leaders On Integrity And Unity

LAGOS — The socio-political group, Yoruba for Democratic Values (YDV), has joined millions of Nigerians in mourning the passing of the revered elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, describing him as a moral compass who championed regional progress and national unity.

In a comprehensive tribute signed by its Convener, Comrade Debo Adeniran, and co-signed by 11 other prominent members, the group stated that Pa Fasoranti’s life and decades of public service embodied the enduring virtues of integrity, courage, patriotism, and selflessness.

“Pa Fasoranti was more than an elder statesman; he was a moral compass, a custodian of cherished Yoruba values, and a symbol of principled leadership whose convictions were not easily shaken by political expediency or the pursuit of personal interests,” the statement read.

Advancing the Yoruba Nation within a United Nigeria

The YDV emphasized that Pa Fasoranti’s advocacy for the Yoruba people was deeply rooted in education, political consciousness, and the preservation of the Omoluabi ethos. Crucially, the group noted that his fierce love for his ethnic homeland never translated into hostility toward other nationalities.

According to the group, one of the greatest lessons from the late patriarch’s legacy is that true patriotism involves pursuing regional interests while working toward a fair, equitable, and democratic Nigerian federation where no citizen or community is marginalized.

“He understood, as every responsible patriot should, that the Yoruba people’s progress is best secured within a political environment that respects diversity, protects fundamental rights, guarantees fairness, and allows all Nigerians to flourish,” Adeniran stated.

A Call to Action for Current Leaders

Expressing its heartfelt condolences to the Fasoranti family, the Afenifere leadership, and the Ondo State Government, the YDV called on current political leaders, traditional institutions, and civil society organizations to internalize the lessons of the late elder statesman’s life.

The group urged the public and officeholders alike to reject divisive rhetoric, cultivate accountability, and defend democratic values beyond just the periodic conduct of elections.

The statement concluded: “Pa Fasoranti may have departed this earthly existence, but the ideals associated with his life remain a lasting inheritance for the Yoruba people and the Nigerian nation. May his memory remain a source of inspiration to all who believe in a progressive Yorubaland and a just, democratic Nigeria.”
