Sultan Foundation Donates $1 Billion Drugs To 72 PHC

The Sultan Foundation Sokoto for Peace and Development in partnership with MAP International, has donated drugs worth over one billion US dollars to the 72 Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) in Kebbi State.
Speaking at the hand over ceremony of the drugs to the State Ministry of Health, Coordinator of the foundation and Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Samaila Mera, represented by Senior Councilor at the Emirate Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan stated that, the aimed of the free distribution of the drugs to the PHCs in the state was targeted to reduce maternal mortality and other diseases, adding that the drugs would help a lot towards assisting the people especially the less privileged ones in the area of good health.
He pointed out the foundation would extend the exercise to other States after this first distribution noting that “it is my belief that other states would accept it and use it whole heartedly
The State Commissioners for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin-Kebbi and his counterpart at the Ministry of Physical and Urban Development, Alhaji Hayatu Bawa Jega, thanked the foundation for the gesture and assured that the will go directly to the beneficiaries who will utilised them judiciously.
The duo noted that, the gesture was in line with the policy of the State Government health programmes that always targets the people at the grassroot.
Alhaji Abdulrahaman Liman, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development, stated that they have developed a tracking mechanism that would be use to monitoring the distribution of drugs and ensure it get to the reached of the people at the grassroot in all the 72 PHCs in the state.
The drugs are to be shared base on the indices of needs identified at the 72 PHCs and health facilities that are highly in needs of these drugs base on the data they have on the high rate of maternal morbidity in the state.
