K-RAD Commemorates World Food Day 2026 With Commitment To Make Osun The Food Basket Of The Nation
As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Food Day 2026, a leading governorship aspirant in Osun State, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke (K-RAD) SAN, has reiterated his unwavering commitment to transforming Osun into the Food Basket of the Nation through an ambitious, integrated agricultural revolution.
In a statement issued to mark the occasion, K-RAD described food security as a fundamental pillar of human welfare and national development.
He emphasized that his vision for Osun’s economic renewal is anchored on modernizing agriculture, empowering farmers, and expanding agro-industrial value chains that will make food available, affordable, and accessible to all residents.
“Osun has all it takes to feed not only its people but to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s food needs. With fertile land, industrious youth, and favourable climate, what the state needs now is a pragmatic policy framework that connects ideas to the soil and turns potential into productivity,” K-RAD stated.
He explained that his administration, if elected, would prioritize agricultural mechanization, irrigation development, improved seed distribution, and rural infrastructure to enhance productivity and competitiveness.
The initiative, he said, would be driven through strategic public-private partnerships and local empowerment programmes aimed at boosting incomes and creating jobs across the agricultural value chain.
K-RAD also highlighted his Dairy and Integrated Agro-Economy Strategy, which he described as a blueprint for achieving food sufficiency and economic diversification in Osun State.
According to him, the policy is designed to support 10,000 households initially, enabling them to participate directly in profitable agricultural ventures, particularly in livestock, dairy, and crop production.
He urged government institutions, development partners, and citizens to renew their collective commitment to eliminating hunger and promoting sustainable nutrition across all communities.
“World Food Day reminds us that we can conquer hunger in all of its forms — it is a challenge we can overcome through planning, discipline, and purposeful leadership. My mission is to make Osun the heartbeat of Nigeria’s agricultural transformation,” K-RAD concluded.
World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year worldwide on October 16 to commemorate the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. The day is celebrated widely by many other organizations concerned with hunger and food security, including the World Food Programme, the World Health Organization and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. WFP received the Nobel Prize in Peace for 2020 for their efforts to combat hunger, contribute to peace in conflict areas, and for playing a leading role in stopping the use of hunger in the form of a weapon for war and conflict.
