NPFL MD 13 Fallout: Group Blasts Struggling NPFL Side, Plateau United Over Damaging Falsehood

Concerned stakeholders of Nigeria sports under the aegis of Friends Of Nigeria Sports (FNS), have responded strongly to the false information being bandied about by struggling NPFL side, Plateau United. 

Following its 2-1 defeat in Lagos to a modest, but technically better side Ikorodu City, Plateau United, returned to Jos with false narratives, as well as, engaging certainly individuals in the media to help them use the falsehood to shield their ineptitude and poor performances before the good people of Plateau State.

In a terse statement, National Coordinator of Friends Of Nigeria Sports, Chief Diprieye Thompson, remarked that the poor performances of Plateau United in the ongoing 2025/2026 NPFL season, can be likened to a student who failed his examination and blamed it on his pen.

“It’s a common knowledge that there are not enough playing facilities in Lagos State. As all the Lagos based teams playing in the different cadres of the Nigerian football league are made to share time to use the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, for their matches,” Thompson noted.

“It is now in the open that some teams are bent on destroying the ongoing efforts of the Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye led NPFL and its partners, GTI, to reposition the league for the benefits of Nigerian football, through their underhand dealings that has continue to hamper the development and growth of football in Nigeria,” he stated. 

“It is equally unacceptable for some so called top club officials to attempt to forcefully access the restricted and technical areas inside the stadium. Unfortunately, these was one of the so called grouse of Plateau United management against Ikorodu City.

“Ikorodu City is a modest but professional managed and well structured team that have always played fairly on all fronts. My group is committed to the betterment of sports in Nigeria and we’II not watch and allow falsehood, corrupt tendencies and unsportmanship acts destroy the efforts of the league organisers,” the fiery sports activist remarked. 

He conclusively admonish the NPFL and GTI to come up with harsher sanctions on clubs who are mindlessly trying to tarnish and destroy the image of the league, with unfounded and damaging narratives.
