Group Hails Tinubu On Ambassadorial Nomination Of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, Rallies Support For Female Successor
The Ikale Diaspora Women Association (IDWA) has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for nominating the Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, for an ambassadorial position, describing the nomination as another clear demonstration of the President’s consistent commitment to giving Ondo State prominent representation in national leadership.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its Global President Princess Adeola Ayebo, the association noted that President Tinubu has remained “a dependable ally of Ondo State” in the distribution of key national appointments, stressing that the latest nomination further reinforces his confidence in the people of the state.
According to the statement, Senator Ibrahim’s new assignment, once confirmed, will create a rare and valuable opportunity for Ondo South Senatorial District to elect a new representative into the National Assembly, an opportunity the group believes should now be ceded to women.
The association lamented that, at the moment, Ondo State has no single female representation in the National Assembly, describing the situation as “a gender-insensitive political imbalance” that must be corrected in line with modern democratic standards.
“We strongly appeal to all Ikale sons and daughters, and indeed the entire Ondo South Senatorial District, to use this golden opportunity to support a capable woman to fill the soon-to-be-vacant senatorial seat,” the statement read.
“This is the moment to advance gender inclusion and demonstrate that our district is ready to embrace the progressive realities of today’s political environment.”
IDWA announced that it is endorsing and rallying support behind Honourable Jumoke Akindele, former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, whom it described as “a distinguished public servant with unmatched legislative experience, political maturity, and deep grassroots acceptance.”
Highlighting her credentials, the group stated that Akindele has a long record of legislative accomplishments, administrative competence, and community-focused leadership, qualities which, it said, make her the most suitable replacement for Senator Ibrahim.
“Hon. Jumoke Akindele has been tested and trusted. She has demonstrated exceptional leadership as Speaker of the State Assembly and has remained a champion of women’s empowerment, youth development, and inclusive politics. Ondo South deserves a representative of her calibre at this critical moment,” the statement added.
IDWA further called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, as well as the national leadership of the party, to “rise to the occasion” by ensuring that Akindele emerges as the party’s choice for the senatorial seat, stressing that her candidacy aligns with global calls for increased women participation in governance.
The group concluded by urging all well-meaning stakeholders, traditional leaders, political actors, community groups, and the wider diaspora, to support this “historic step towards gender balance and stronger representation” in Ondo South.
“This is not just a political decision; it is a moral imperative, a step towards justice and gender equity. We must seize this moment,” the statement emphasized.
