Says “His Loyalty Remains A Rare Example In Our Politics”
As 10-year remembrance of Chief Rafiu Adeyefa Jafojo moved into its second day on Friday, April 24, with a solemn Jumat Service at the Ikeja Central Mosque, Lagos State Deputy Governor and leading APC gubernatorial aspirant, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, has recounted how the late elder statesman came to his graduation ceremony at the University of Ibadan in 1986 to bless him.
According to Dr Hamzat, Chief Jafojo placed his hand on his head and said ‘wa lalubarika’, which means you are going to prosper in whatever you do.
Leading the state’s delegation to the occasion, Dr Hamzat, also used the occasion to highlight the late elder statesman’s enduring relevance, declaring that “Jafojo’s loyalty remains a rare example in our politics.”
The service, attended by clerics, dignitaries, and family members, honored Lagos’s first executive deputy governor with prayers and reflections that emphasized his humility, discipline, and devotion to public service.
Also in attendance was Oba Abdul Lateef Oladimeji Egbeyemi, Madarikan I, the Ologba of Ogba, whose presence added a traditional dimension to the remembrance.
Dr. Hamzat, representing the state government, stressed Jafojo’s lasting impact: “He was a man whose humility and discipline continue to inspire us. His loyalty to Governor Lateef Jakande was not just political—it was a lesson in integrity that we must carry forward,” he said.
Joining him was the Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters (Islamic), Alhaji (Dr.) Abdullahi Kolawole Ahmad Jebe, who reflected on the spiritual significance of the memorial: “Chief Jafojo lived a life anchored in faith and service. Today’s prayers remind us that true leadership is measured not only by politics but by values that endure beyond one’s lifetime,” he noted.
Family members, including Alhaja Bola Jafojo-Adediji, Chief Soji Jafojo, Prince Niyi and Kemi Jafojo, Hon. Wale and Kunbi Jafojo, Mrs. Bisi Fapohunda, and Barrister Demola Adedeji, joined in offering prayers for the deceased and his descendants. Clerics invoked blessings of guidance, unity, and continued service, ensuring that Jafojo’s legacy remains alive in both faith and governance.
The Jumat Service added a spiritual layer to the memorial events, blending Thursday’s political tributes with Friday’s prayers, and reaffirming that Chief Rafiu Jafojo’s life continues to resonate across generations.
