INEC Slams ARISE News Over ‘False’ Voter Register Display Report In Lagos
LAGOS, NIGERIA — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has strongly denied a media report claiming it failed to display the Register of Voters in parts of the Alimosho and Shomolu Local Government Areas.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, 15th October 2026, the electoral body described the broadcast as completely false and misleading.
The controversy stems from a report aired on ARISE News during the morning segment of What’s Trending, presented by Orji Okpe. The broadcast alleged that the vital election document was missing from specific Registration Area centres within the two targeted local governments.
Countering the claim, INEC Lagos State clarified that the display exercise was successfully executed across all 245 Registration Areas (Wards) spanning the entire state, explicitly covering all zones within both Alimosho and Shomolu.
The statement, signed by Mrs. Esther Emeh, Head of the Voter Education and Publicity Department, on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, urged the public to disregard the broadcast.
“The Commission wishes to categorically state that the report is false and does not reflect the actual situation,” the statement read.
“Responsible journalism and accurate reporting are essential to preventing the spread of misinformation and maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.”
INEC further advised media organizations and practitioners to prioritize the verification of facts through official, credible channels before publishing or airing reports to the public.
