JANDOR Visits Traders In Alaba International Market, Decries Attempt To Disenfranchise Them
The Lagos flag bearer and Gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (JANDOR), yesterday visited the Alaba International Market to identify with the market men and women and re-assure them of his support towards averting a replica of last week’s unfortunate incident where they were denied the right to register for their Permanent Voters Card (PVC).
Gbenga Ogunleye, Head, Media and Communications of Jandor 2023 Campaign Organisation in a statement at the weekend recalled that traders from the market who trooped out in their numbers last week to participate in the Continuous Voters Registration exercise were attacked by APC-sponsored thugs because of their perceived sympathy for the PDP.
Also, their declaration of one-day closure of the market to enable them to participate in the exercise was frustrated by the lacklustre performance of the INEC officials.
After a closed-door meeting with the President-General of the Amalgamated Council of Sectional Heads of Traders Associations in the Market, Hon. Mbonu Udochukwu Godfrey (Man UD), JANDOR addressed all the Market sectional heads and the executive council on his support for their resolution to ensure that their members are not disenfranchised in the 2023 elections.
He notified them of his immediate intervention of seeking an audience with the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner and the State Commissioner of Police on how best to prevent a re-occurrence of the sad event.
JANDOR noted that the International market contributes hugely to the economy of the state therefore no serious government should neglect the well-being of the traders.
“Lagos state is for all Lagosians and the interest of all residents not minding their tribe, religion or gender must be protected”, he said.
JANDOR promised that he will do everything to ensure that all the potential electorates in the International market get their PVCs and freely exercise their civic responsibility.While appreciating JANDOR for identifying with the traders, the Chairman, Serki Mukta Allied Association who doubles as the Public Relations Officer of the Amalgamated Council of Sectional heads of Associations in the International market, Hon. Muhammed Buba expressed the displeasure of the traders over the incident and the perceived deliberate attempt by some officials of INEC to disenfranchise them.
JANDOR however assured the traders that the PDP government in Lagos come 2023 will give them a breath of fresh air.
