Borno Attack:PDP Guber Candidate Mohammed Ali Jajari, Condemns Zulum
The Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate in Borno state , Mohammed Ali Jajari, has condemned the silence of the governor of the state, Prof Babagana Zulum over the attack on the convoy of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday in Maiduguri.
Speaking on Channels Television current affairs program, Sunrise Daily monitored in Lagos on Friday, Jajari said over 100 people were injured in the fracas with one fatality last night.
He said; “ I’m surprised that the governor has not even deemed it fit to speak against what happened. Maybe he’s doing that because of his partisanship”.
On the empowerment program that the ruling All Progressives Congress said was on before the crisis erupted, Jajari said it was used as a decoy.
“Since the ban was lifted on campaign by the Independent National Electoral Commission, we’ve had about five campaigns and we communicated to the state government and the security agencies, notifying them about the visit of our presidential candidate to the state.
“The so called empowerment program was a decoy to perpetrate the attack. They closed all the 27 local governments in the state to ensure that people didn’t come out to receive our presidential candidate. They took away all the tricycles and buses. It was the people in Maiduguri metropolis that came to receive our presidential candidate.
“ When I met with the commissioner of police yesterday, he told me the PPRO misquoted him that he didn’t say there was no attack, but that there was no gunshot attack.” He added.
Meanwhile, the inspector general of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has promised to investigate the matter and what led to the attack, adding that the report of Borno state police command was hasty.
