New Naira Notes:Emefiele Wants To Scuttle 2023 Elections- House Leader

Majority leader of House of Representatives, Hon Alhassan Ado Dogunwa, has accused the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele of planning to scuttle 2023 general elections through the naira redesign policy.

He spoke on Channels Television current affairs program, Politics Today, monitored in Lagos on Monday.

Ado-Dogunwa maintained that the timing leaves much to be desired and the fact that Emefiele contested and lost the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress may have pitted him against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, hence the planned to scuttle the election.

The House majority leader said President Muhammadu Buhari may not understand the implications of the timing on the electoral fortune of the APC and all its candidates.

He said; “ If it was a well thought out policy, Mr President would not have considered the extension. Emefiele contested and lost the APC presidential primary, so it is not impossible that he is working to scuttle the election. Look at the timing. The Independent National Electoral Commission will need cash for mobilisation. All the security will be paid cash before deployment. So , the House will not allow the CBN governor to ride roughshod on the CBN act. We are not taking the 10 days extension.”

Ado- Dogunwa, however, said the Speaker will have no option than to sign the warrant to the IGP to compel the CBN governor to appear before the House committee, if he stays away again.

On the alleged frosty relationship between President Buhari and Asiwaju Tinubu, he said it’s unfounded.

“Though, there may be some friction here and there, President Buhari and Asiwaju Tinubu enjoy good relationship,” he said.
