Convict Bawa Must Serve His Jail Term, Lagos Lawyer Insists

A Lagos lawyer, Rotimi Akinwande, esq, has challenged the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba to ensure that EFCC chairman, Abdurasheed Bawa is apprehended to serve his jail term.

Akinwande in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos insisted that since no one is above the law, Bawa must serve his jail term.

He, however, bemoaned the state of lawlessness in Nigeria as people with zero integrity and respect for the rule of laws are allowed to preside over institutions that fight corruption.

He said; “It’s so unfortunate that in Nigeria of today people with zero integrity and respect for the rule of law are allowed to preside over institutions that enforce laws and fight corruption.

“Anyone without integrity and respect for the rule of law and who is disrespectful to courts of competent jurisdictions like EFCC’s chairman, Bawa Abdulrasheed, should never be in a position to determine who is corrupt or not. No greater corruption than corrupting our judicial system by acting with impunity.

“Bawa must go and serve his jail term. He is a convict whose conviction has not been overturned.

“IGP, do your job. A convict cannot be allowed to enforce laws over other citizens.” The statement said.
