Stop Using Cane On Children, Yomi Fabiyi Appeals To Nigerian Schools

It was a moment of joy and happiness for the students of one of the wave-making private schools in Iperu Remo, Ogun State – Solid Foundation Group of Schools located at Akinbowale Street, under the directorship of Mrs. Tolulope Barrigah Sodunke – when the school held its 2023 Cultural Day. Nollywood star cum human rights activist, Yomi Fabiyi, surprisingly appeared to celebrate the day with the school.

On Tuesday, February 21st, 2023, all primary and secondary schools in Ogun State, both private and public, observed the cultural day with a lot of activities being put in place. However, as a school with integrity, Solid Foundation Group of Schools came up with an innovative idea by inviting a celebrity from the Yoruba Movie Genre of Nollywood to speak and encourage the students.

This, according to the residents of Iperu Remo, has never happened in the history of Cultural Day celebration in the area. Still, Solid Foundation Group of Schools is the first to break that record.

Yomi Fabiyi, on his part, really inspired the students, especially when he addressed them on the right path to follow before achieving their purposes in life.

As a human rights activist, the dynamic actor seized the opportunity to appeal to schools in Nigeria to stop using the cane to abuse children as a result of training or correcting them for their mistakes. To him, using a cane to punish a child is an abuse because there are several ways of punishing a child without resorting to the cane.

The students were excited to see a celebrity of such caliber in their midst, entertaining and educating them at the same time. Different activities were displayed by the students to make the day unique, while sumptuous African meals were served.

On the high table were the school management and the PTA executives, under the chairmanship of renowned journalist Gbolahan Adetayo. Also in attendance were the school’s founders, Mr. and Mrs. Barrigah, Mr. Idris Sodunke, Mrs. Adesewa Stevenson, Mrs Funke Awoite, Mr. Sulaimon Segun, and many more guests.
