Birnin-Kebbi Black Out: KAEDCO, Govt, Army Resolve Differences

Authorities of Kaduna Electric Distribution Company had reached a resolution with the Kebbi State government to restore electricity supply to Birnin-Kebbi metropolis after four days of total black out.

The State government tenders unreserved apology to the Company over a face off between the Army and Staff of the Company last week Saturday which led the electric company to cut off supply to the entire Birnin-Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State.

Addressing a press Conference shortly after the meeting with KAEDCO management Staff, representatives of the Nigeria Army, Officers of sister Security agents and top members of the State government led by the Secretary to the Government (SSG) Babale Umar Yauri.

Yauri explained that the actions of the men of the Nigeria Army on that faithful day was not authorised and felt short of Military tradition and practices, adding that those involved the act are currently under interrogation and necessary punishment will be meted out to them.

He pointed out that there are various ways in which issues are resolved instead of open confrontation of thathe magnitude.

“The State government hereby tenders it apology to KAEDCO and assured it that the State government would put adequate measures in place for KAEDCO Staff to work and be protected.” He said.

The SSG blamed Social media operators for blowing the incident out of proportion through their fake news propaganda adding that what has happened in the State power sector was not peculiar to the State alone, it is a Nation wide problems.

“Government Commensurates with KAEDCO Staff and assuring you that and the general public that adequate security would be provided to staff while on duty without further molestation.” He assured.

Responding, the zonal manager of the Company, Mr. Sunday Yahaya, said the company appreciate the State government for its understanding of the face off that led to the black out.

He promised immediate restoration of electricity in and around the State capital as all the Staff will be mandated to work round the clock.
